rantings 005 sacrifice

What is sacrifice? Trading something great for yourself, for something terrible, however it  raises the spirits, or standard living of another, usually a loved one, or entire populace. That's how I would word it.

Why is sacrifice so important to everyone and everything? well, for starters, there isn't a thing that we do as humans that doesn't require sacrifice of some sort. Take for example, a home. You have sacrificed the lives of the creatures in your surrounding area, as well as the resources that go into your home, they came from somewhere, and wherever it came from, had to make sacrifices to get it to you. Point is, sacrifice is everywhere, and it goes relatively unnoticed.

Perhaps sacrifice is a way of atonement for some, for others, its a purpose of life. For me, it's somewhere in between. What makes life so wonderful, is standing for something, being something individually or unified, without that, we are just drones. Standing for something nowadays, rarely means actually dying for it, but we all make minor sacrifices here and there, for a cause we love.

Now, my family profession, does mean there is a chance we could die, we are all Marines, (I'm going to bootcamp soon) and we are all proud to say we would die in a heartbeat if it meant upholding our values. However, I strive to sacrifice parts of myself to make society better as much as possible. Sometimes through volunteer work, other times through just helping a friend. sometimes it leads to heartache of catastrophic pain levels, other times it leads to physical pain, such as using my superior strength to aid a friend by moving his massive TV. The point is, I make an effort, and I think everyone should, to make the world a better place via, sacrifice. Who knows, maybe your time is all it would take to make a difference for someone's entire life.
