A Hair CutA Poem by Ken e BujoldHalf a foot, too short … the objection to the shearing direction
‘above the collar …’ overruled.
My father’s sense of contemporary
fashion a few reflections behind the
times, still that other side of the
continental divide, considered hair, or lack thereof,
the definitive factor to determination
of a son’s invirility. When I mentioned Christ’s
coif clearly covered his trapezius
and apparently hadn’t bothered his
father, my father ordered another inch lopped off for insubordination. His son,
far from divine it seems, would
do well he said, to remember the fifth and pivotal command of his
house … ears should be seen … which
I’d remind him of every time he broached the
pirate’s pearl I adopted the day I sailed. His house, my ear a hair … too long. Ken e Bujold © 2024 Ken e BujoldReviews
