Hymn of the Matapedia

Hymn of the Matapedia

A Poem by Ken e Bujold
"

One and only new work of month's vacation

"
Where the ancient and other world waters embrace
Where the great river and Atlantic entwine
Where tides wake to Nakuset summoning
Earthborn hands to abundance of his tabletop
The communion of seed and soil

Where the sword and cross washed ashore
Jacob’s sons to sow a new nation
Among the long settled tribes --
Where storytellers traded tongues and told
How the unknown One gave birth

To sons and daughters to seek
Winds and waters to lands
Where time might wash the stain of Eden
From the collective soul --

Where the ache of Cain’s grief could be
Paroled in the toil and moil of restarting
The covenant …

I find my poetry. Awake
To self and commonality
Of syllables -- the consonancy
Of consonants across continents.

Author's Note

Ken e Bujold
Matapedia is a valley along the St Lawrence through Quebec and New Brunswick leading to the Atlantic. Nakuset is Mi'mkaq name for the Sun, creator's first creation from which all else flows.
Region is where my roots lie.

Vacation ends tomorrow, home in 2 days, so hopefully I will catch up and respond to all read requests in the following few days.

You definitely have a deep attachment to the Matapedia Valley... and it shines in this poem where you cite so many historical events that have happened there. This seems to be the place where your roots settled where you are inspired to your your beautiful poetry.
Warmly,
B
