A Final Severance

A Final Severance

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

Perpendicular, stretching out

the neck to right angle --

some swear, just before the shuddering

axe of a conclusion came crashing down

around her ears, she smiled.

A final flash of intuition, recognition

perhaps to the congealing tides

fastening on a rickety throne, the last

laugh between two roses.

While we are told, at that very moment,

Elizabeth was consumed

by prayer, the evidence is circumstantial,

hearsay at best -- recognition to

her own duplicity in the duplicitous twists

of a court neck deep in ferine machinations.

What can be said for sure: one

kept her head when the other

severed all relations.

Mary Stuart shouldn't have put her wishes in writing. The Virgin Queen was not one to trifle with.

2nd half i agree with, 1st half is pure fiction, crafted to rid themselves of a constitutional thorn
History and mythology; great places for poetry prompts,
Well done, sir,

Winston
