Ex-Communications

Ex-Communications

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

Listen, it’s almost
a given, she’ll call --
usually around 3 a.m.
when you’re dead
to the world, or
locked inside the bathroom,
counting how many gray hairs
you’ve sprouted since her last
nocturnal climb down.
You could get yourself unlisted,
nail a dead skunk to the bed post,
or buckle down, dial up
the pope and ask
for a general dispensation
from all your sins.
Real and imagined,
it’s what I did.
Twenty years ago.
Back then you had to leave
the country, now you just disconnect
the WiFi, play dead
for a day or two,
before crafting yourself a new
Avatar, and start
all over again.

Nowadays relationships are so different from what they used to be. They are not taken as seriously and breaking up, I think is so much easier to do. Dating apps make it so easy to come up with a new image and name so if a disgruntled lover tries to enter back into your life, they wouldn't be able to track you down since you already have a new account and avatar. Yes, perhaps it is easier to get away from creepy lovers, but that also means that relationships are not taken as seriously as before since it happens online where there is not the chance for real in-person intimacy... unless you both agree to meet in-person of course! Thank you for sharing Ken, I enjoyed the read!

Dear Ken,

I enjoyed this poem so much. To me, it spoke of the true nature of the online world and virtual relationships, as they are today. Fast, deceptive and quite expendable. Running away and never being found again is so easy now.

You can run but you can't hide. (laughing) I never was very good at hide and seek. Now I'm too fat to hide and too old and tired to seek. What's it like to have a stalker? I had a fan once but the blades got bent and the motor burned out. I'm now reduced to opening a window and praying for the slightest breeze to blow. I enjoyed reading, my friend. Just enjoy the limelight while it lasts. ;)

Ha ha ha, pretty good, pretty neat, but hey, at least she calls and that something because you could have nothing which might be better but who’s to say. I love the humor of this one, and had a feeling for the love of a woman that knows you for who you are and loves to mess with you and you captured her and all the beauty that she must be. Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful. I’d still leave the country though. Smiles~

In my lifetime. I left the country to escape a woman. Funny part. Somehow they can find us. I liked the honesty and the story in the poem. Thank you Ken for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
