St Bartholomew's Priory

St Bartholomew's Priory

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

What is a cross
but two sticks joined in matrimony
of a life and death encounter
of limbs bound to common purpose
of making a martyr
of a man before God.
When you bend to listen
the quiet wisp
of recognition
of repentance
like a splinter worming its way
to who and what
you were intended to be.

"limbs bound to common purpose." An insightful line an insightful offering. Like W. Barrett, I too read it several times, there's a lot here! Purpose and one's path, I think, is the essence of poetry, and this one is a fine contribution, Ken.

I had to read the initial sentence numerous times to see it but now that I do I like the construction.

I like you chose to elide “is” from the second sentence.

Made me think and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and the life of Christ which sadly seems well down the list of must haves these days. If only more had his qualities of loving and forgiveness.

It is ironic that an instrument of torture could evolve into a symbol of salvation.
