What Happened?

What Happened?

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

What happened to decency?
When did the road veer from the country and
Thus the world into the grubbing hands
Of mewling grifters?
Were the corn fed lads and coal fired sons
So agitated for a future?
Is it just a sign of our age
That the hard lessons of yesterday
No longer can hold against the tide
Of a appetite for destruction?
Have we tarnished the rainbow
So much only black and white remain?
How could so many turn from tomorrow
To the wages of their own self interests?
Is there any truth left
To be devoured?

It's unfortunate that throughout many years decency has taken a backseat. Corruption, violence, stress, and immorality are the norm now in many forms. I believe the internet does indeed play a small part.

People have become addicted to there cell phones and are much more obsessed with social media which can lead to a self-centered personality. Because of that, looks and status have become more important than holding open a door for an elderly woman.

I wonder what the world will look like in ten years. It's then one might look back at your poem and determine if the questions are still worth asking. I assume they will be.

Sadly decency seems to have flown out the window. Things ain’t what they used to be and I have to say that the tinternet has played a large part in this. I for one am pleased that I am a dinosaur of the old world. Every time my mobile rings “scam” comes to mind before I even know who us calling. Sad state if affairs Ken.

Sometimes I feel I blame the internet for too much, but it has enabled a whole new level of crime to surface. My wife and I lost $14,000 when some hacker somehow obtained our checking account info. We have avoided other online grifters by being alert. I don't know if these people have strayed from the old standards as the poem suggests. Possibly, they never had any to begin with.

It is definitely a different world than I remember. Decency, politeness, just being nice to people seem to be things of the past. And I know it happened slowly but it seems it has changed overnight. Nicely expressed my friend

I think this is a poem that needs to be written, needs to be read. It takes a world-sized view which is needed at this moment-there is enough of self-centeredness to go around.
