A Snapshot: A Boy, A Train, and The Devil

A Snapshot: A Boy, A Train, and The Devil

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

This was taken some time
back before
I decided to avoid
cameras:

a candid capture of a boy,
you can see
how a trick of light
casts an inky spherule
over the left shoulder,
a harbinger
of the intended direction
I meant to follow.

To your right, just entering the frame
a blear blob, to fix your imagination on
(indistinct but clear) the widening rails,
the emerging intersection I mean to cross.

That motion of a notion you feel,
the want to shout
a warning is noble, but
I never listen.
When you are twelve
the word don't doesn't
carry much weight.
No weight at all.

I've been told, if you look
deep into my smile, you might
find the Devil's eyes shining,
the grim leech of a finger
turning me round...but

I've never been one for looking
at photographs.

Ken, I have met the Devil often. She can be a beautiful gal or a old man drinking. I enjoyed the company of both.

The sad part. The devil try to save me. God had forgotten the old soldier. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
