Your New Red Dress

Your New Red Dress

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

Stand down, dear Sorrow, let the sea wash away

the grit and grime of a night's unintended

mis-adventures. Sleep. Nest until the new day

rain's her forgiving kisses down upon your head;

let go, sweet Regret, your heart's harsh contentions,

make way for the fresh dawn of love's first crow,

flight of sun swept swallows swinging low

across a dew-tinged meadow's graced intentions.

Drink deep, dear self, let yourself consume

what nature's meant to have: think less

of all the empty complaints, and make room

inside the closet for your new red dress.
