I Did Not Hear the Rain

I Did Not Hear the Rain

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

I did not hear the rain
cascading through the dream
I had of you last night:
a boat beached on the shore,
I followed the footsteps
along the edge of the tide,
my fear shadow of a moon
too bright to conceal the ache
I felt for missing you;
a voice I did not recognize
came from the mist, "Who
do you expect to find?"
You, I whispered, you--
but only the music of a slapping wave replied.

I had to go through this one a number of time to get it: slow mind day I guess. Once I understood it as a description of a dream I really enjoyed the diction chosen. And the ending.

love is a many dreamed of thing
A deep sense of loss comes through with this poem. Sometimes we may not even know who or what we are missing. Part of the human condition. Beautiful expression and the emotion is conveyed well. Enjoyed Ken.

thanks Temp. happy to see you enjoyed your read
I felt the melancholy and longing in this. We are drawn to the places that seem to roughly force us to stare into our pain - it seems to grieve with us, just a bit more loudly and profoundly than we allow ourselves.
Thanks for making me "feel" Ken.
