Tomorrow Will Be Different

Tomorrow Will Be Different

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

But tomorrow is different.

A fresh misery pulled from the soil

of a land more indurate and strange

still waters the illusion of

a garden shared,

of faith and cynic intertwined

in some morbific dance,

a mortgage between two stems

grafted

in hope of a new frontier.

I live with the conviction:

finding each other's stars

in the dustbin

of a sky of exploding sparks,

of a universe of exposed ribs

may not be exactly

as it was intended--but

the difference is tomorrow intended.

Tomorrow, the gray beginning

heralds a world reconciled to

starting over, the shaft of a light

new spade turning

ill-matched furrows

the hard labor of sewing

a partial pardon--the promise

more soluble than strange.

Tomorrow will be different.

As Mr. Pope said, hope springs eternal. The impression is the speaker is not denying the frustrating sameness and disappointments of life, but is hopeful things will be better after a night's sleep. Maybe so; such an attitude is certainly better than despair.

I like the way you repeat "tomorrow will be different"; life is always changing, moment by moment; what is today might be different tomorrow; and by your words you don't particularity like what you see today...the world is decaying; the earth is but crust.... and it is grey, dreary, the universe is exploding....but tomorrow may be better, so there's always hope. Very in-depth poetry.

'Grey is the colour of hope' as another Poet once said. Nicely worded and well put together. Excellent.

gray is indeed a color of hope
there has to be gray before there is blue...but the skies will clear if we work towards solutions to rid our world of all the rain that keeps us from peace and love.

Change is inevitable. So is rust, rot, decay and entropy. Change is consistent but it's not always a good thing. It matters not whether we are optimistic or pessimistic, cynic or fanatic. There will always be something more until there isn't. Nothing lasts forever. Best intentions come to naught; worst fears, to fruition. It's all coming to nothing in the end. We shall all eventually reside like Ozymandias. As Shelley wrote, "Nothing beside remains round the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare. The lone and level sands stretch far away.” We might as well smile while we still can.
