Sweet and Sour

Sweet and Sour

A Poem by Ken e Bujold
"

'Not for the sweet-toothed reader"

"

Why don't you write something
sweet, without the sour
bits of rage--

the accusation reads
like a sharp punch to the psyche's

solar plexus.

Too much melancholy

can't be good for the soul

cynicism like cancer

can rot you from the inside
until there's nothing left
worth saying.

So why don't you
write something sweet--

the trouble is
there's just too much

tedious treacle
being passed around

as it is.

I find it next to impossible to write happy....I have had many ask me why I don't write more uplifting pieces...and some friends who get scared because I write troublesome lyrics...
but they do come more easily....
when Sylvia Plath was asked to write happier stuff...she said," let the Ladies Home Journal blither about that stuff"---

I really like and relate totally with this piece.

I find the British influence in your lexicon (treacle) fascinating as down here in South Canada most would say molasses-but I like treacle better. I also agree.
