Hard Times

Hard Times

A Poem by Ken e Bujold

Waiting on the light
at Seymour and Drake

a fair weather lady

asks, “what I need?”

Fifty bucks...

hell, back in the day,
I'd have charged sixty.

We're living in hard times

it seems.

Time has always been hard, but the definition has been changed. I remembered the Hard Times novel by Charles Dickens, it was almost dark comedy

My impression is the lady is a free enterpriser of the oldest profession sort. Fifty bucks. At that rate, the package can't consist of much. But, as the title advises us, these are hard times. You get what you pay for.

PS: Are you related to Genevieve?
