and what was before....

and what was before....

A Poem by Ken Simm.
"

Wishes of a countryboy.

"

Ah, I hear the pipe

Do you hear it too?

The Curlew bright

a shining bird in concert

with the song of the moors.

Oh but to hear the singing

just once, once more, my love.

To see the seventh wave, the gull

and the northern seal

watch til the deeps thunder

To feel the running, just this once

and the stag in antlered rutting roaring

To see the silvered strings

and gold leafed dresses

in the blessed harp of the shivered trees.

Getting mushroom gathered while ye may

The stacks of sweet, oh so sweet yellow

The vixen's yip for precious young

and a headress of grass that you will wear

life in a rayed red sunset

The best fish leaping

The swans necking the weed lake

The talon clutch in a flying shadow

the blue of the hare on the mountain snow

and the world that was before

What a beautiful creation! I could almost hear the wind rustling as I read the words in my head. Sweet fresh air smells and the sound of birds and the pulse of nature drawing me in and calming my soul. This felt so peaceful and serene. So many times I have wished I could go back to "the world that was before"...but we really can't....

I took a trip back in time, Ken! Your work has changed so much since this was written. ...or rather, it has not.. There are few words here, yes. ..but the feelings you invoke are the same. The imagery takes me to this place in time. I can hear the birds, I can feel the grasses brushing my skin. I can feel the blood flowing, racing through his veins! I can also feel the wistfulness and yearning for this long ago read chapter. Lovely as always, Ken. Angi~

Thank you Angi. This became part of a longer piece called The Book of Talisen.

I like how the second line poses a question to involve the reader, and your words appeal to all of the senses....very nicely done, Ken.

LOL That sometimes happens when we aim for something else and it evolves. I can almost see Pan walking about. (smile) Moors, wind, earth... you make me feel them. 'and the world that was before'

Yes! Thanks. Beautiful

I enjoyed this stroll throught the meadows and hills. Great stuff. Especially like the curlew and the talon. And the hankering after a more natural place may also reflect a hankering after some personal place of innocent, natural youth and vigour.

Ah oui, le monde qui tait auparavant... J'entends des sourires dans le vent doux et vois un instant heureux avant moi. Pas aussi bon que ce qui tait, mais mieux que ce qui ne pouvait pas tre.

This is beautiful and carries with it a lingering warmth...
