A New Morning

A New Morning

A Poem by Kemenza Harris
"

A cry from the broken heart.

"

Lonely nights with restless sleep,

Pillows feel the burden of my remorse.

My heart is a dove trapped in the snow,

Cold and numb, too weak to fly.

The sun is down and the night gets darker

As I await a new morning.

How could the nights and days carry on

As though all is still right in the world?

Oblivious to dying breath and aching heart.

Why does it still go on

While I face the darkness? Breathing yet dead.

As I await a new morning.

How does one live without the love

Which means more than life itself?

What is left of a hollow heart

That bleeds the blood of a bitter loss?

A broken soul, not soon to rise

And bring forth a new morning.

When shall love show its face again

To this cold, wandering hollow frame?

Held fast to the past and the ruthless pain

Waiting for the sun to rise again

To give the light to guide it home

And bring forth a new morning.

This has a longing feel as I read the words the way you place the questions in the last three stanzas and finding a way to answer them...

I did see one area needing attention in the first stanza:

Lonely nights with restless sleep,
Pillows feel the burden of my remorse.
My heart is a dove trapped in the snow,
Cold and numb, too weak to fly.
The sun is down and the night gets darker
As I await as new morning.

Cold and numb, too weak to fly.
The sun is down and the night gets darker
As I await a new morning.

like you did in the second stanza...with: As I await a new morning...the ending plays well with your use of the sun light as a way out of the dark...and find a new way...

A beautiful and powerful poem. The above lines are true. Real love last forever. When love is given for the sake of greed or to use and abuse. Leave heartbreak and sadness. Thank you for the excellent poem.

And oh how that broken heart may yearn to love again, to find that which brings joy in the morning!
You have done an excellent of portraying this feeling of love lost with the questions you ask, the descriptions you give, and the sense of total hopelessness! Good form matching well expressed emotions!

This is a great piece of art. It flowed like a song.
