First Kiss

First Kiss

A Poem by Kelso A. Nicholson

Upon a soft green leather chair, he sat.

He eyed me curiously, scared, excited.

He looked me up and down hungrily

And I fell into his lap, clumsily.

They sat on the couch nearby,

Peering out of forward facing eyes

And like I fell into the soft green chair

I fell into his trap,

Sitting perched upon his lap

In the flickering light of the TV

And then when I almost thought it wouldn’t happen

He leaned in, eyes locked to mine,

His hand slip up my leg

And rested gracefully in the small of my back

And the fireworks in my head proceeded

And my heart raced almost mechanically.

Because for me, all those other kisses weren’t real

Because this was the first kiss, from my first love

And it was unlike any other.
