A DREAM COMES KNOCKING

A DREAM COMES KNOCKING

A Poem by Kelsmiles
"

This is one of the first poems I wrote for my fiance, David.

"

Outside my window,
a car door slams,
footsteps on the sidewalk,
a knock on my door,
I know that smile,
I recognize your eyes,
they hold the same gleam
as the gaze on my screen.

We hug, we kiss, a smile we share,
how is it possible you are here?
a vision from my dreams,
knocking on my door.
where did you come from?
How is it your here?
The questions tumble from my lips.
And in my heart I hear the answer.

Outside your window,
a car door slams,
footsteps on the sidewalk,
A knock on your door.
I couldn't resist, I had to come
I had to know, if your were real,
You know my smile, you know my eyes,
Their the ones you've seen a thousand times.

We hug, we kiss, a smile we share,
finally we are here in the same space.
We giggle and blush, all in a rush,
To ask and answer the questions in our hearts,
We feel as though we're where we belong,
The love is evident in our eyes.
We would fly together now across the miles
Just to see the others smiles.

Outside our window,
car doors slam,
Voices on the sidewalk,
an open door.
So many friends and family,
have come to see us.
As we say our vows of love and fidelity,
Our dreams come true, for eternity.
Knocking on our door!

I like the poem, and the repetitive use of the door knocking and car door slamming. The last 3 lines of the poem were the only ones, that I couldn't really enjoy. I know you were trying to emote, the finality or, eventuality of, your dream of coming together, but I just think you could rework it to fit the metaphors of the poem better.
