IN A FOG

thumbnail.aspx Have you ever driven in fog so thick you couldn't see anything in front, behind or even on the side of the road? A fog so thick that ALL you could see was the road markings directly in front of your headlights? Did it seem like you were driving into NOTHING?? Did you grip the wheel  wondering where the curves in the road were? Afraid you'd miss the curves and go through a guardrail?  So worried you'd hit something because you couldn't see ANYTHING!!!??? Did it seem like a blessing when other cars came by you? Because then you Knew you weren't alone in the mist? Did you wish there was Someone, ANYONE in front of you, so you could follow their lead? Maybe, Just Maybe,, see their taillights? Did you ever think of your future as being like that thick fog? I did, and I do.

I was driving to work in a fog that thick. I couldn't see anything around me! No houses, trees, sign posts, NOTHING!!! Boy was I scared!!! LOL. But I've been thinking about that fog ever since. I wanted to write a poem about it,, but when I thought of it, it kept coming to me as an essay...... here goes........ LOL

FOGGY FUTURE

Driving down the road in a cloud can be so much like what we can see of our future.. not much there huh? We don't know what our future holds in store for us any more then we can see what's ahead of our lights. Our lives take so many twists and turns, they curve in any which direction, but like driving in that fog.. we can't possibly see where those curves are or where the next turn is going to take us. We can only try to map out our goals and hope that the road ahead takes us where we want to go.

We can Stop! Look ahead, Think!! But... it doesn't always happen the way we plan. Too many obstacles get in the way of progress. Money, time, illness, etc.. can upset our plans. and so many times we have to start over.. We can stop and wonder if we missed our road, or even if we should go back and check.. but that isn't possible.. we have to keep going.. no turning back time, like you can turn around on the road.

We should keep the windshield as our guide instead of the rear view mirror, that just shows us where we've been when we need to look ahead. If we keep looking back.. we'll just miss the next curve, turn or exit. Then we get lost in the cloud. Take brief glances back to check for mistakes and learn from them, and hope the next road will take you back where you wanted to go.

Proceed with caution.. take your time and think about where you want to go, and how to get there. Plan, and try to stay on course. Not always easy to do is it? Not with that fog in front of you! Can't see where the road is going! But each revolution of our wheels takes us further down the road.

Clear the mist from the windshield, keep your lights on so others know your there. And when another passes by? Be thankful they did, cause they could be your savior, your friend or just another acquaintance passing through. But they all have an influence on our lives and possibly our futures

My road is leading me to David. Even in the mist, I can see him clearly and he's at the end of the road just waiting for me to join him. He was one of the headlights passing through my life, but we both stopped on the shoulder of the road. As we talked and related to each other we realized that our road, our destiny, led to the other. He's become the taillights that I follow as my guide through the mist.  Even though we've had our share of twists and turns.. our road hasn't changed, it keeps going forward. And when we finally come to a clear patch in the fog? That's when we'll be together. Of course then the fog will close around us again.. so we won't know where the road will lead us next, but at least we'll be traveling it in the same vehicle.

Great write Kelle...great analogy...I think I had one of those drive-bys today...certainly things are happening to lift me up that never would have happened had I not taken off down that road last year, heedless of the fog.
