Last Moments on EarthA Story by KelseyThe earth is slowly dying, the
plants and trees are nearly extinct, water and oxygen have become a rare
resource to find and with each day, we are heading closer and closer to the
sun, to the end of humanity. However,
before the whole earth was completely affected by this destructive heatwave, a
group of intellectual scientists realised what damage could come from the sun’s
rays and began creating artificial gravity to stop the earth rotation. However,
when testing, there was an unexpected power surge forcing the earth to become
tidal locked to the sun causing humanity to die quicker as oceans all over the
world rapidly began to rise resulting in mass panic and destruction. Multiple
tsunamis began wiping out countries all over the world, killing billions of
people in a matter of minutes, it is a miracle that some people even survived.
A week passed and all the water on the land was evaporated, leaving little
water left in the Indian and Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic, Pacific and the
Southern Ocean, however, were completely frozen over. Nearly the whole
population died by the artificial gravity, only 400,000 people survived; the
rich, the government and people who made it to higher ground in time. To
prevent overpopulation on the dark side of the earth, the government took
action and put a continuous border all around the world dividing the light and
the dark, there was the access point for crossing the border but there was a
high-cost fee. Majority of the rich would stay on the dark side and help fund
the underground living such as helping create hydroponics which would allow
plants and food to grow without sunlight and soil. The dark side had unlimited
amounts of water as they could easily melt the frozen oceans but, they could
not build on the surface therefore, citizens would help with the construction
underground making it stable and secure enough to live under. The bright side,
however, was near enough impossible to live on. Food would not grow because the
ground was all dried up, water was becoming difficult to access, there was a
lack of oxygen due to all the plants being scorched by the sun and it is
impossible to be outside for more than two hours without dying of sunstroke. A
small handful of the rich however, would cross the border three times a week
and give the residents rations and currency, which was water or valuable
materials, so they could survive longer. Some people refused to accept the kind
gesture of the rich because they did not want to become dependent on them. They
also believed that the rich would stop crossing the border one day and make
everyone fight for resources just for their source of entertainment. One day
soon enough, the earth will explode because the sun will eventually heat up the
earth’s core causing volcanoes to erupt and the earth to split. Our only chance
of survival now is to move planets and start again. © 2020 KelseyAuthor's Note
