Him

A Chapter by Keli Renee
"

The Identity of the elusive dead boyfriend is revealed!

"
His name was Quinnton Jacobie Bradshawe. His nineteenth birthday was yesterday. Not that he was there for the party. Not that there was a party.
He was always a straight-A student. He hated sports with a fierce passion. Instead, he was in the Chess Club. He always joked about how he only joined up because the nerds needed a little bit of good looks on their team. In truth, he was a Chess wiz; an absolute genius at the art of psychological war.
He was exactly five feet and eight inches tall. His naturally black hair (but aways dyed some unnatural color) came down to his shoulder blades. He always had me straightenit for him; he was all thumbs when it came to hair-care products.
His eyes were the color of the ocean. They were all the colors of the ocean, really. When he was mad, they became the dark color of the deepest, sunless parts of the ocean. When he was sad, they were the slate gray of the waters whilst in a fitful storm. They were clear, bright blue when he was happy; just like the ocean waters of Hawaii on the brightest, warmest day of the year. And when he looked at me...my goodness, its nearly impossible to describe. If you could bottle the sight of a fiery sunset, the first and untouched snowfall of the year, and the grandeur of an eighteenth century house all together, you wouldn't come close to the color of his eyes looking intently into mine.
Quinn always had this way about him that said he was an old soul. He walked with a gentle stateliness that said that he wished to stay calm as long as possible, and that he didn't want to hurt anyone. He spoke with a rythmic cadence and a quiet voice. His tone was deep and held a note of assured responsibility. He was never demanding. He didn't like double standards. He never liked being turned down on any offer (not including any sort of sexual intentions; he was way too shy, not to mention unpopular for that). And he especially hated losing. To anyone. At anything. It was just his nature.
He had the weirdest taste in music. I kid you not, that boy listened to everything from classical, to musicals, to hard rock.
If any of what you just read bothers you, in the slightest, then you are about to be forced to stop reading on account of a black eye. Do you have any issues with that? You do? Well, take it up with someone who cares. I certainly don't. I couldn't care less, to be completely honest with you.
Right about now, I'd be willing to bet that you are utterly perplexed as to why someone like Quinn could fall in love with someone like me. I wondered at first, too. But you have already prejudged me. I'm also ready to guess (correctly) that you missed the part about a certain Valedictorian's award being taken from my possession. And you just went back to the previous chapter to reread everything and see if you can come across it, didn't you? And now that you've just confirmed that statement, you're probably shaking your head in disbelief. Shame on you. I'll have you know that I've been a straight-A student for years. I've been elected class president nine out of the ten times I ran. The opponent I lost to just so happened to be Quinn. I was livid, at the time. Now that I know him so much more, I have to say that I am proud that he could beat me, the undefeated champion of nerdiness.

A unique path to take, your not so much telling a sotry as having the character come into the readers life sit at there table and talk to them. I like it. I especially like -If any of what you just read bothers you, in the slightest, then you are about to be forced to stop reading on account of a black eye. - I love it, makes her seems more real and more relevant to the reader

yay! i did notice the valedictorian part!

the description in this is amazing. it's choppy, again, and i feel like the writing style varies too much in the first part as a posed to the first chapter, but like it all the same. the last two paragraphs especially.

i like how you formatted the chapter titles.
