Glitter EyeshadowA Poem by Kelly Danielle Hall
Alone she'd stand,
Each day she hid, Observing others, Longing to join them. She studied their words, Their walks and style, But never was she noticed, As she drowned in denial. Wanting their skin, Away she'd look, Hiding her reflection, Behind her school books. They knew not her name, Nor who she was, To them she's a shadow, Amongst all their lust. But now she has changed, She's cracked her cacoon, For she'll be like them now, No better, so soon! With a flick of her hand, And a flash of a wink, She's too gorgeous for words, But not how you think. Nothing changed in her clothes, She just wears a smile, She's outspoken with words, And happy for miles. But then the day came, When some mask that she wore, Was revealed to the crowds, That she once adored. Out she had bought, A small little tube, With a flash of her eyes, And everyone knew. Accepted she was, Her own little breed, To lead her own crowd, And be what they need. A hero of sorts, For the shadows like her, With her glitter eye shadow, And her mind in a blur. But broken her path, Her vines in a twist, For her faith had then faded, Into the abyss. Broken and shamed, Of her once hidden pride, She wanted to get out, To go back and hide. So long as it took, She found her way home, Curled up in her books, And canceled her clones. For once she was found, So proud and content, Wiping away glitter eye shadow, And becoming bent. Perfection is not her, She is flaw after flaw, But she'd rather be her, A shadow on the wall. © 2014 Kelly Danielle Hall |
