Let It Out Before the Thought is Drowned in Black and White

Let It Out Before the Thought is Drowned in Black and White

A Poem by KellyAnn

I.

I want to say it beautifully,

But no matter how I try, I can’t tug the words out of my throat

To say what’s on my mind.

I want to say it artistically,

But no matter how I try, I can’t use my brush to paint into words

The vision in my mind.

I want to say it romantically,

But no matter how I try, I can’t pour out all my heart

I’ve kept trapped behind my eyes.

But believe me, I’ll try.

I’ll try, I’ll try, I’ll try.

II.

I won’t listen if it’s hideous,

And I won’t stay if it’s not smooth.

It’s got to be well thought out and beautiful.

At least show me that you’ve tried.

I won’t frown if there's no color, if it’s painted black and white.

As long as I see what’s in your mind

Then I’ll know you’ve tried.

If you pluck me a simple rose from that place behind your eyes

That’s all I’ll need to see clearly

What’s buried down inside.

But believe me, if you try

I’ll try, I’ll try, I’ll try.

III.

I’ve got to say it beautifully.

Just say what’s on your mind.

I’ve got so much smashed up inside.

Come on now, don’t be shy.

I swear my heart’s not ugly.

            You’re not the ugly kind.

But it’s hard to even describe.

            Explain what’s on your mind.

You really are phenomenal.

            Believe me dear, that’s fine.

You are a true work of art.

Is that what’s on your mind?

I want to be romantic.

            Then say what’s down inside.

You’re all that I can think about.

So I’m what’s on your mind.

So let’s try.

            We’ll try, we’ll try, we’ll try.

Well, this certainly would make a lovely song, Ms. Ann. As I read, had to hold back the clouds in my eyes.

Cheers,
Luther
