Korea

A Story by Kelly N

Korea

Japan took over Korea a while back, and they did this because they wanted to expand Japan, make more factories, and get more money. They succeeded with this and made more factories, got more money, and so on.

The Koreans did not like this at all, the Japanese banned the Korean language in public. For some, I’m sure it was hard not to speak their language. Some Koreans even tried to learn Japanese so it would be easier to talk in public. I’m sure most Koreans didn’t like it because the Japanese tore down houses if needed to make room for factories. They raised the taxes on houses, cars, everything. They also brought in Japanese families, and lots of them.

I would not have liked to be their at all at that time. Because everyday, I would be worried, “Ok, is today the day those foreigners are going to evict and bulldoze my house?” I’m sure it wouldn’t have been fun. Some ended up on the streets, and that could have been me if I was there. I am thankful for where I live now, I may not like the president at all, but I do like “The Land I Live In.”
