Remember

Remember

A Story by Kelley Quinn

It was over 2,000 Americans.
Do you think other countries give a s**t if we die?
Of course not.
We have to care for ourselves. Other countries have memorials where we and other countries have killed their people. It's a country. A nation. Nationalism. It's a normal reaction to be proud of your country and to defend it when the time comes no matter the size or destruction of the issue. It doesn't matter how many people died that day. It still matters. What it symbolizes about our nation is what counts.

This is an important matter and if we can't talk about it we have a problem. I know that we're all people. I didn't say that because they are not Americans that they don't matter. I'm saying that a country can be upset about a tragic event.
If you had lost your parent or uncle or friend in the towers, wouldn't it make you angry if someone came up to you and said "get yourself together. It's not like 60,000 people died. Only 2,000" well f**k that.
If 1 person dies, isn't that enough? Because people knew them.
They were friends and family. Brothers and sisters. And people are saying that we're selfish?

Well scream it to the world then. Find that crying son who never knew his father and tell him he's being selfish. Write a letter to George Bush and tell him that finding the man, the organization, who did this was wrong, selfish, and stupid. Because it's not like he had a country to defend or anything. Oh no, definitely not.

We do what we have to do. So do other countries. Us bombing in wars? That's how you win a war. You think if we all just sit in a field holding hands it's going to be fixed? Of course not. You know that. You know how brutal the world is.
War f*****g sucks. But it's everywhere and we do what we have to.

We are selfish.

But not when it comes to respecting our country. But it's our nature to be selfish. We can't do anything but try not to be.
So sure. Let's pretend this never happened. But it'll happen every year on this day when people ask you your opinion. So next time someone asks you, you go on ahead and ask them "Why are you crying you selfish b*****d?"

I'm not sure if what I sense is anger or compassion, maybe both. I agree, it's not how many that were killed, it's that anybody was killed at all. To those that think it's no big deal, see how they feel if that one just happens to be them; then it becomes a really big deal. Are we selfish; yes. We all have our own self serving agendas in life, things we want. Is that wrong..no, unless perhaps it places a great burden on others, like crashing planes into a building. Who was he thinking of when he gave the command? Was he aware of the burden he was placing on his people? I don't think he cared. Ben Laden payed for his crime, but I think I would have made him suffer. Is that wrong...probably.
Have a good day, and I'm sorry my comments are so long.
