Run

Run

A Poem by Kelley Quinn

My footsteps hit the ground, one after another

Slap. Slap. Slap.

Like face to the hand,

But setting a different image.

When I run, I can run away from

Anything.

The trees around me

Blur.

And the voices that so frequently

Call out my name

Fade.

No longer does my mind

Scream and fight.

Instead, here is happiness.

The moment right before the adrenaline

Kicks in.

And….

Pure with nature,

That’s what this is.

Just me,

And nothingness.

Just nature,

And I.

Only the sound of the dirt

Sinking under my shoes.

Only my heavy breathing

Follows me here.

I could run forever.

And never look back,

Not once.

I forget my regrets

And my guilt.

I leave my past at the starting line,

And run until there is no more ground left.

There is a growing chill spreading through my mind,

And I like the feeling of no thoughts bouncing around.

Right here, I am myself

And nothing will get to me,

Because I am invincible.

Because I run towards the future,

Not away from my fears.

This is a very good poem it makes me feel like just running free to get everything of my mind. I like how you said it's just you and nothingness, that everything is a blur and fades away. And the last two lines were great =]
