Late at Night

Late at Night

A Poem by Kelley Quinn

Baby,

whisper to me

between books between

library aisles.

Run your finger

down my

spine so you don’t lose

your place.

I want to fall in love

beneath the ones

who have only ever

written about it.

Feel free to check me

out any time,

as long as you

know there will

be punishment if

you’re overdue.

Do you like it

Dog-eared style?

Because I'll bend

you over.

I want you to kiss me

like the pages do,

so close, there’s no

room for anything but

you and I,

me and you.

You know what

they say: Breathe

deep and spell the

alphabet with your tongue.

Let me want you

in old libraries,

so quiet

I have to feel your

lips like braille.

Love me like

you would a book

you’ve read a thousand

times

and a thousand times more.

I don’t want to

finish my favorite

book too fast,

but baby your

plot lines

keep me up

late at night,

with climaxes

again and again.

Hush now,

baby,

your lips

are the pages

my words have searched

years to be placed upon.
