Una FloraA Poem by Kelley QuinnA world
exists between your lips and mine - A volcano’s edge your mouth
craters, with teeth so white I mistake them for doves and
There is a world between us - your nose is an Icelandic cap
where mysteries beginning at the base unravel at the tip.
The flower fields of Medellín reside in your cheekbones, pulling sustenance from your streams.
You’re hiding Mother’s history behind your oceanic lips. I want to taste the salt that you leave behind on my sandy skin. I am hypnotized by your eclipsing irises, by the archaic depth in that darkness. You hide me from the sun, but still I do not shiver. Your breath becomes my breathing. A sodden cloud begins condensing, and precipitates from your iris pond.
And together we create an ozone
layer: the stratosphere locks us in, orbits us like stars.
The moons are the freckles on your ears. Right here. I feel like I am the center of
the universe.
