Going Out to SeaA Poem by Kelley QuinnA VillanelleWe went out to see Where despair could carry us, so We went out to sea. There was a noise next to him and me: In the crib a cry, so shrill, of woe. We went in to see. He and I, I and he Could not stop the screams, the waves, so We went out to sea. To return, there was no key, How could we have known? We did not go in to see. The scream was the plea, A wake of silence struck too fast, so We went out to sea. We failed to guide: our son won’t be. The waves rise, fall, crash slowly. We went in to see, and saw: So, we went out to sea. © 2013 Kelley Quinn |
