There Once Was...

A very long poem.

There once was a girl named Kel...
as her life broke apart she fell...
into deep sorrow, grief and despair...
she cried out to heaven that life wasn't fair...
she withered and wallowed...
as her soul became hollowed...
she cried rivers of pain...
they fell down like rain...
she was ruled by her heart...
and right from the start...
she knew what she wanted...
now her nights are haunted...
by memories of her past...
of a love that couldn't last...
she made a bad choice...
after feelings she voiced...
now she lives with guilt and shame...
and ponders if anyone feels the same...
each day she grows stronger...
she couldn't live with herself any longer...
she's starting to heal...
while trying not to feel...
she's accepted her fate...
and knows it's too late...
to start again...
with her best friend...
missing him will last a while...
she remembers how he made her smile...
his kiss upon her lips, the gentle touch of his hand...
he's gone away now, he's off to the land...
where happiness abounds, and dreams come true...
where the grass is greener, and the skies always blue...
she'll love him always and forever...
and hopes that he'll never...
forget how much he meant to her...
that's one thing he can always know for sure...
despite the broken heart, she'll always forgive...
she wants him to be happy, to sing and to live...
her unconditional love just wasn't enough...
her road will be long, the going will be rough...
gone are the days where souls were as one...
she's trying to find her way, her place in the sun...
loving him was all she knew how to do...
now that he's gone, she's searching for something new...
to fill her days, to occupy her mind...
it's going to be hard, he was one of a kind...
he made her laugh, he made her melt...
she wished she knew how he really felt...
she knows he feels differently than she...
but in her heart, she still feels they were meant to be...
her heart still cries, wishing it were true...
but he doesn't feel the same, there's nothing she can do...
live and learn, love and grow...
she's trying to hide her feelings, she can no longer let them show...
she'll stuff them down within her heart...
she'll try to move on and make a new start...
his girl is who she'll always be...
even though he doesn't want her, it's very plain to see...
he was the true love of her life...
someday she'll get past the sorrow, pain, and strife...
she realizes he will find a new love...
and she will seek solace from heaven above...
watching him move on is more than she can take...
that's why she has to let go, to make a clean break...
she misses her bunny...
he made her life sunny...
for now her days are gray...
because he could not stay...
she still cries at night...
sometimes til morning light...
the chill of the lonely bed...
the echoes in her busy head...
in the morning she paints on a smile...
she works to get past the constant denial...
that comes from the faith and hope that she's seen...
she wishes for someone to wipe her memory clean...
to take away the memory , to take away the pain...
the sorrow she has been feeling nearly drove her insane...
her days are filled with loneliness, her nights are filled with tears...
each day she forgives and prays for the man she's loved all these years...
where will this road lead her...
God is the only one that knows for sure...
she'll continue to take it day by day...
and deal with the issues that come her way...
