PromiseA Poem by Keliy Nicolaites KesePromise was a paralytic That you kept in his state of fear and loneliness You put him on a diet of lettuce and love You wrapped him up in blankets for little ones Warmed him with your hands For you had nothing else to hold him You gave him the reassurance that You were sent not to destroy... Restore. I could just let this lesson close But I guess I’m having a hard time getting there Some stupid fool hit me in my legs and left me on the road I was dumb enough to cross alone Now, scurrying; cowering in the cold But I was fine, you know? Until you met me there... Shoes stood beside my ears Hips I couldn’t see made one such as thee Arch forward, reaching out to keep your promise Made beyond what embolden lines put me behind And you were not really looking to find With your cautious, warm hands Both saying life on this crumbled asphalt is not where it began Promise was as broken as eggshells Here lies pieces of what was once a whole being Was it fertile? Did the rooster crow? If so, did he love hen? And what’s the deeper question is One day will we be whole? All coiled together in harmony and linked by a white cord, For we are more than our battered and broken souls? We are tired Because we are so much more We are promised And promise’s passion to restore Assures it will turn fools into gold
