Folly and The City That Always Sleeps

Folly and The City That Always Sleeps

A Poem by K Scott Smith

At five I am awake,
showered, clean.

I quietly crept from the hotel room.

So this is it?

My final farewell,to the city that always sleeps.

Two others sleep,

oblivious,

Goodbye.

all the wrong drugs.

I am off to save  myself

or destroy myself.

I am a desert tonight,

an ocean this morning.

I hold back tears as I walk these dirty streets for the last time-

I long for a place to return to,

a place for my ghost to cling to.-

You sketch the steps of waking up beautifully. The letting go of past dreams for new. Beautiful.

I think I'm over analyzing what this means, it's so raw and expressive.
Very nicely delivered and thought provoking.

Wow...I really think I should read more poetry on here because this was...whoa intense!
I loved it; you painted a masterpiece with so few words. I can't even begin to get into how much the words reached out and brushed those strokes. Bravo! Well done!
