Cobber's Tale

Cobber's Tale

A Poem by Keith
"

My loyal mate.

"

I have a dog named Cobber,

A faithful Collie cross.

There is much that he can teach

About life, love and loss.

He cares not for your status,

As a have, or have not.

He doesn't care to judge you

So content, with his lot.

If his water bowl is dry

Or has to wait for food.

He will never sulk or moan,

Nor in a nasty mood.

He will be extra happy

When it finally comes.

He'll appreciate it more

And lick up all the crumbs.

A cancer on his tail,

The vet gave it the chop.

But still he woke up happy

After his little op.

So pleased to see me afterwards

To his feet with a jump

I said "Mate how ya doing?"

He wagged his bandaged stump.

Thanks again Gabriel. Always appreciate your reviews.
As a grand lover of dogs, I really appreciate your write of your precious companion!! How brave and loyal is he! 'Tis all so very heartwarming and with excellent rhyme and meter - my favorite style of poetry. I too am a "rhymer"...just seems to come natural to me, so I say, "Let it be"!

Thank you Pryde, much appreciated.
This poem is a beautiful tribute to your dog. I like the way your eight line verses march along with descriptive rhymes that sound out in an easy non-forced way with a cadence. A good story told in non-forced rhyme that bounces along with a cadence is what we all strive for.

Thank you Athereal, I keep working on it, hopefully I can keep getting better.
I love reading stories about pets! They are more than that, aren't they? My dogs comfort and love without a thought for themselves. Their ruffs have absorbed so many of my tears. Lovely piece for your Cobber! Angi~
