Cobber's Tale

Cobber's Tale

A Poem by Keith
"

My loyal mate.

"

I have a dog named Cobber,

A faithful Collie cross.

There is much that he can teach

About life, love and loss.

He cares not for your status,

As a have, or have not.

He doesn't care to judge you

So content, with his lot.

If his water bowl is dry

Or has to wait for food.

He will never sulk or moan,

Nor in a nasty mood.

He will be extra happy

When it finally comes.

He'll appreciate it more

And lick up all the crumbs.

A cancer on his tail,

The vet gave it the chop.

But still he woke up happy

After his little op.

So pleased to see me afterwards

To his feet with a jump

I said "Mate how ya doing?"

He wagged his bandaged stump.

Your love for your dog leaps off the page. Perfect rhymes with an excellent cadence. I enjoyed this very much.
I read your bio. I, too, am not trying to change the world. It's far more relaxing to simply enjoy it. (As you appear to be doing with the wig in your avatar.)
Regards. Richard

What a wonderful friend you have in Cobber, Keith. He sounds like he's a pure delight to have around. You have painted a wonderful portrait of your faithful pet, and I enjoyed it very much.

Thanks you Joyce, I appreciate you reading through my work. Keith.
Ooooo how utterly gorgeous! I really smiled hugely at this one Keith! So sad that he had a cancer, but ever so pleased he came out of it as he did. He wouldn't miss the tail but he would miss you! Pets are certainly the most precious and love unconditionally!
He sounds such a delight!
Love how you bring the reader right into your world with your words.
Another fine poem from your quill!

Awwww....how sweet this is. He asks for nothing, does not complain, and gives you only love and companionship. Such a special write for your pet! I enjoy your rhyming! Lydi**

That was a few years ago, still wags his stump to greet me every morning.
An entertaining story, told well. There is a moral in there for us all too! Well done! ~ Robert.

So sweet. Love Cobber's Tale/Tail. Clever. Dogs are so appreciative and loyal. Glad the cancer could be removed. :)

Thank you SyberRose, I always appreciate you dropping in.o
A nice vignette about a favourite pet. The metre could be improved in places, i.e.
'There's so much he can teach
Concerning life, love and loss.' The last line of V1 - 'Is contented with his lot.'
'So pleased to see me afterwards
He gave a little jump,' - but overall a feel good poem.
