My pride & joy, was that orange ute,

Perfect for the farm, a little beaut.

81 model,  94 on the clock,

It went all over our 10 acre  block.

We sprayed the weeds  and collected wood,

It did every job, a farm ute should.

The lads mucked up in a paddock so rugged,

Over they rolled, now the body is buggered.

A year has passed since that terrible loss,

I miss her badly, the wife doesn't give a toss.

She said "Get over it!  The dammed thing was  rolled,

Its never coming back,  might as well be sold."

“Stop moping round the house, giving the me s***s,

Put it on eBay, someone might want the bits.

From her unkind words I found consolation,

I could think of it like an organ donation.

So I am really hoping, that in due course,

Her Gearbox or diff, might save your work horse.

We can see the body looks a bit sick,

But the running gear is in real good nick.

If you have any questions give me a call,

No I'm not wrecking, you have to take it all.

Author's Note

Keith
Flying from Sydney to Melbourne I was determined to work out an ad to get rid of my old ute. But my bloody muse kept wanting to play with a silly poem. I told him several times to "Piss off", but he just would not go away! So we ended up with this as a compromise. I got a phone call 30 seconds after the ad was listed, some Chinese guy turned up with his tow truck and it was gone within the hour. He never actually read the ad, just got the SMS alert. However, several people sent messages of commiseration saying how much they had also missed an old car they had once loved.

I am indeed saddened for your loss. I once loved an eighty-four Chevy Blazer that I dorve for far too many years and would probably be driving still if I hadn't totalled it in an accident.

Sometimes they feel like family. Thanks for reading Marie.
Hilarious and heartfelt. I have a 2003 green Taurus named Liz (for lizard) and the day my hub picked up the title after we had made the final loan payment my dear older spawn rear ended a lady in a van - giving my poor gal the most unsightly underbite. Took two years to get the menfolk motivated to replace the hood and right after they did, my son got sideswiped in a parking lot so she has a scrape down to the metal all along the side. SIgh.
