sleep inA Poem by Kees KapteynSunlight stumbles in through the curtains Like a drunken spouse returning from an adulterous absence I roll over and bury myself in my sheets and ignore her guilty advances. Dreams envelope me in a womblike embrace, A sense like consommation, Constant holding fondness. I'm finding a box of toys That I haven't played with since I was three. They are brand new. Their packages are still stiff and glossy. The carpet feels like plush And the music is warm from the radio in the kitchen. I lie in front of the heating vent under the dining room table Warm and in my element. © 2008 Kees KapteynFeatured Review
