My Dad, My FriendA Poem by KeeleyDear Dad, How will I go on without you? You have always been there for me. You could have left with Mom when she left, but no, you chose to stay. To love me, to raise me, to take care of me. You did Mom's job for her. You helped pick out my clothes when I was young. You helped me find God. You helped me pick out the perfect prom dress. And you played chaffeur to my friends, their dates, and I and my date, when the limo driver never showed up. Don't worry, you did the dad things too. You taught me how to play sports. You taught me how to drive. You taught me to never trust guys who say, "Trust me." Except for you, of course. You helped me move into college life. My crazy friends loved you. I loved you. I love you still. I still think about you every day. I'm on my own. Completely on my own. Then, I found a letter from you. It was in that book you used to read me all the time. It said that you knew of your problems and you tried hard to get rid of it. But if I was reading the letter, it hadn't worked. You told me that I would never be as alone as you were. My friends were my support system. You didn't have one. Did you do this because of me? Because I bought that hunting rifle? Oh, how you loved hunting. I regret buying that rifle. Dad, you weren't alone. You had me. But I guess it's too late now. But I still love you anyways. 8-7-2008 © 2008 Keeley |
