Secret LullabyA Poem by KeeleyThis is my secret lullaby. I never sing aloud, the story of my broken heart that no one knows about. There is one who holds my heart. Do you know who you are? Like a child who lost their way, I stumble in the dark. But then, you came and said to me, “Come,” and held out your hand. I took it and our fingers clasped, you led me to a different land. You loved me and cared for me, like no one had before, and before I realized it, my heart was wholly yours. But, then a change came over you, and you walked away, and left me in the dark once more, to try and find my way. I tried to fix my heart again, but it was to no avail, and then I found out I hurt a friend, and I became more frail. Now sometimes, when I close my eyes, I can see your face. But when I open them again, it slowly fades away. I would, if I changed myself, would you come back to me? Yet somewhere, deep in my heart, I know that it will not be. So, now I gather up the pieces of my shattered heart and give it to another to fix, who I know won’t tear it apart. © 2008 KeeleyReviews
