While the city dreams

While the city dreams

A Poem by KeeD

The crackle in the cold nights breeze

the fire under the bridge it speaks

Warm words for the broken and weak

While the city dreams

Where do we come from? we play this game

counting our dollars and applying blame

does it matter, in the end we're all the same

While the city dreams

Tucked away tonight without worry

the cardboard house is flooded with rain

Shivers take claim, being fortunate is a different kind of pain

While the city dreams

Love unites the flies with streetlights

amusing is the sight to a child of the night

Behind the dumpster lies humanity's answer to society

While the city dreams

I absolutely love this poem! The structure, the meaning, what it makes me think; like everything! I really love the while the city dreams at the end of each stanza, that enriched the content, flow and impact!Superb write!

We are all in the matrix...all in the maze of dreams sought out within other dreams and when we no longer care to look what truths are disposed of that lay in wait for us all to reach them with open hearts...we fail to be human, as such...humbling poem - we are truly all within the same grid and yet so divided...saddening x

I had to read this a couple times just to make sure I was getting the right image. I wasn't at first. I hate to admit it, but at first I was being a lot like the people dreaming here and not paying attention to what was right in front of me. The line "behind the dumpster lies humanity's answer to society" was what snapped me back to what I was doing. It's a very interesting idea, and I have to say that I agree. When I really started paying attention, this poem made perfect sense and painted a sadly beautiful portrait. Great work Keegan!!!:)

This left me with an eery and quiet feeling. Almost as if I was walking down the street. You have painted a picture in my mind and led me on my way through the whispers of your words. Great job! :)

A well written take on the homeless that haunt the streets at night, reluctantly.
This is both beautiful and heartbreaking. I love what I see in my mind's eye when I read this.
"While the city dreams."
Well done!
