The Trial

The Trial

A Story by KeeD

This story starts with a tragic beginning. Lee only twenty three on her way home was hit by a truck, the collision shattered her bones. Severed limbs and final breaths, Lee was soon visited by what we perceive as death. A white rabbit climbed out of a hat, terrified Lee took a couple of steps back.

"Follow me girl, we have somewhere to be, I hate my job, you're only 23!" said the rabbit with a voice of pity.
A door opened as they entered a room pitch black. Scared by her own footsteps, Lee exclaimed,
"What the hell is that?"
She stood besides the rabbit in the darkest corner of the room, a spotlight appeared opposite to her. The light gave vision of a frog playing the violin. The sad tune played on as the rabbit began to recite a list of Lee's sins.
"No!" she yelled, "this can't be happening"
Voices echoed from the dark, "sinner! guilty!, send her to hell"
The rabbit once completing the entire list asked in the voice of a lion
"What have you to say about yourself miss?"
Mortified by the events been played, Lee pinched herself really hard hoping she'd wake up saved.
"This isn't a dream girl, your judgement awaits" the rabbit tapped his foot for that is what he had to say.
Realizing this wasn't some sort of a dream, she decided to defend herself and get out of this mess.
"I'm not guilty of most of these crimes, even If I am for some of them, I've certainly done my time"
"Oh really?" the rabbit expressed, "Let's see how honest you are, we'll put you to the test"

Lee afraid of what's to come next, stood there quietly, hands on her chest. The rabbit faded into the dark of the room only to appear as a janitor with a broom.
"Do you remember Mr Collin from Mary Mount High?"
"The Janitor" Lee said as she let out a cry.
"Indeed the Janitor, the man who worked everyday only to pay tuition for his daughter Ann-may" the rabbit now furious followed by asking her this,
"What did you do that made him cease to exist?"
Lee breaks down as the crickets in the room start their symphonic sound. It's not just them chirping together this time, you can hear the crickets saying killer with the faintest of noise.
"I'm not a killer", Lee screams at the dark. Her voice echoing in the room as a pool of her tears leave her feet damp.
"Let's all agree for a second that she didn't kill this man, why did the poor janitor take a gun in his hand, point it to his head and pull the trigger," the rabbit said.
Her entire life in school flashed before her eyes, the pranks she played, covered up by all that lies. She was cruel and cynical, always making Mr Collins life hell. Lee had claimed he raped her in the closet by class nine, he was terminated and listed as a sexual offender for the rest of his life.
"Poor Mr Collins, just wanted to provide for his child, she had to drop out of school and live with her abusive uncle till she's no more a child"
Lee cringes as the pain is unbearable, her heart weeping as her body lay still.
"I didn't ever want it to come to that, I always liked Mr Collin as a matter of fact"
"Rubbish, you don't harm the people you like" the rabbit said with disgust.
"I admit it, I was bad, I sinned, I'm a murderer, send me to hell" breaking down after accepting the truth Lee yelled.
"I should do that but i'm going to do something else instead" with a thud he banged his verdict on her, send her back to the world of the living once more.
"Why, would you pardon my sins Mr Rabbit" Lee asked with utter shock.
"Because you can fix your wrongs once you accept the truth in order to move on, so now go down back to earth and save that little girl from the tortures of her uncle and make sure she's your world."
"I'll look after her like she's my own, i'll make sure her uncle hurts no one anymore"
The darkness in the room starts to fade away as a door opens and the rabbit whispers,
"The light will lead you away"
"Goodbye and thank you for this second chance" Lee waves farewell as she walks away from the room that decided whether she went to heaven or hell.
Sirens blaring and the red and blue reflection at the corner of her eye as she lay in a stretcher lifted by two paramedic guys. Her finger twitches as she feels life flow through her once more.
"She has a pulse, rush her to St Michael's Hospital, go, go, go!"

Lee lives with Ann-may today in a big house with a dog whom the little girl loves and adores. She always wonders what the rabbits name was in her dream, until she goes up to Ann-may's room to clean. She sees a drawing of a white rabbit on the bed, above its head read the words that will reflect on you all.
"Daddy".
The End.

This was a cute story and I really liked it. We can't right our wrongs until we accept the truth for ourselves.
