Growing up but always remembering Mom

for a contest

I'm twenty three and ready to work

got an interview lined up today

so excited i'm not sure what i'll say, but

I just can't wait to go home and wish my mama 

Happy Mothers Day. 

I often wonder what it takes 

To be the one who always makes 

that extra effort to keep up smiles

making childhood so worthwhile

It isn't in the worn out shoes

cannot be found even with a million clues

that magic comes from somewhere else

somewhere deep in a mothers mind

I don't understand how she copes with life

obstacle, struggle and so much strife 

yet when i'm sad and feel like I've had enough

she's the one to tell me to never give up

I've been for a couple of interviews in the past

I know how the process works 

tell me what you've achieved so far

so we can hire you for our work

Well I've achieved so much in life

thanks to my mother being by my side

but if your looking for an achievement here

the award should go to my mother dear

Shes raised me from skin and bone 

fed me and made me super strong

groomed me into a humble man

always been there to hold my hand

She isn't with me right now 

because she raised me to be independent 

be a man who can take a challenge

no matter what life throws at me I will survive

Go out in the world 

accomplishing goals and dreams

Hold your head high and 

Let the heart be heard and seen 

So if you're looking for a candidate 

to fit the bill, someone to work with

I will make sure I fit

because I've got my mothers 

heart, will, confidence, intelligence, strength and beauty 

But most of all, I will always have her
