Role Reversal

Role Reversal

A Poem by KeeD
"

A cut on your skin, yet someone else is bruised Role Reversal, you're in someone else's shoes

"
Eggs Benedict
Prepared by the wife
Just a simple man
Living a nine to five life

Today the sky is red
Job to transport the dead
An incident took place three days ago
A girl too young was raped and killed

Gang banging neighborhood
Drugs sex violence, kids up to no good
Area Code demands respect
kill conquer protect

Blonde hair against the violet felt
Soft eyes reflecting the skyline
Laid in the back of a hearse
Loved ones slowly dispersed

Set out on a final journey in this world
Me her tour guide taking her to destination dirt
Suddenly I see shining lights
Visions of the wife and children flash before eyes

Walking through the light
Solace over my soul
A field of sunflowers at my gaze
Haze in the distance still stands glimpse of a girl

Reaching out for my hand, firmly grasping it tight
No longer the feeling of a siberian winter's night
Failing to understand, lifesless touch so tepid
Now guided through heavens door

Panic, breaking hold, Shudder in fear
No, please God, NO!
Eyes awaken in a coffin
Grave Keeper seeking redemption

Commit the sin, repent within
Struggle to bury a past
Scorching heat boils troubled skin
Falling besides me, breath wearing thin

Her name tattooed
Over his right eye
Gang member, once a Crip
Forever a Crip till you die

Weight of a lifeless body
Encompasses mine completely
Dead weight, I suffocate, eyes shut again
Shovel held tight, I elevate Grave Keeper I am

Digging through the mud
Trying to save a soul
Every single strike of shovel against earth
Sinks said soul into an eternal hole

Hell awaits this sinner patiently
Screams grow louder frantically
Furnace of flames welcomes body
Crimes recruit devils new comrade

Innocent child decends from celestial path
Heavenly smile peaceful aura
Hushes mouth before hint of sound
"Go back, live life, Funeral Director you've done well"

I awake from deep sleep
Nightmare level now I can complete
Playstation controller in my hand
Role Reversal

(deep breaths)

I figured out how to beat the game

Whoah!! Though I got temporarily destracted by my cat acting out, I thought this poem was mind-blowing!
You think the protagonist is really going to die then... BAM!
It's not real.
Great write! ^^

You are a master at telling stories through poetry. This was awesome.

I'm not a gamer... but I occasionally play the sims (nerd, I know) and whenever I do, I always dream that I am a sim. So yes, I know what you mean.

I do think the the poem could stand alone without the gaming aspect, but I like it nonetheless.

Oh seriously? This is about a video game? *laugh* I can honestly say I would not have known that had you not mentioned it. I don't play video games (I know, how weird am I, right?) ;-) I like the premise of this piece, that sort of altruistic vow so many people make when a life too young has been taken by violence..."it should have been me!"...I wonder how many people would actually make that vow if it was at all possible to reverse the roles. Intense write, Kee. Very good.

No, I have not, but thats really damn good!!!!!!!!! I like the story telling escense you give it and of course I love the fact that it's a dream. Not many people have the courage to write about dreams, or maybe they just don't feel it's a very important subject. I, on the other hand, am fascinated with dreams. Anyway, good work:)
