a poem I helped my girlfriend write for her history class back in the day
World War 1
In the late 19th century, political and military power they sought, Machine guns, rifles and grenades they bought. They formed alliances & set defenses; challenging one&other, Sacrificing fathers, sons and brothers Germany's military strength was growing, Chlorine bomb shells they were throwing. Russia's up and coming technological might, Would help defend Serbia put up the greatest fight. To add to the chaos France took revenge,
For the conquest of Alsace-Lorraine
While Italy too wanted to join the game, Belgium wanting to be kept neutral made the United Kingdom do the same. So thus the triple alliance was born, And it counter the triple entente was formed.
In 1914, a Serbian nationalist fired his gun, Austria's soon to be prince was done.
Set haste to 10 demands made by the Austrian prime, Serbia promised 8, Austria declined Then came the time, where war was on mind.
Austria declared war and so Germany knew, Russia sided Serbia with France and Britain too
The war lasted 4 years, it was filled with tears.
Although entente had won, long term peace they were far from. This is the sad story of World War 1
World War I. The Great War, before they numbered them. Out of all the truly stupid wars in the history of our human race, this one was one of the worst. No one wanted to fight it, on any side, and there was no true reason to fight it--and everyone said so at the time. There was no great evil that had to be stopped, as was the case in WWII with the Nazis; there was no villains or insane dictators on the rise; it was all nothing but red tape politics and idiocy, and was the greatest waste of life on the planet. And for what? Only for the nations to decide that enough was enough, and everyone got sick of the bloodshed and just plain threw down their rifles and quit. And it also paved the way for Hitler to come to power . . . and look how that turned out.
Human beings are intelligent creatures.
You'd think we would learn . . . but somehow we never do.

This is so true.. the spoken word, always somehow ends up in deaf ears. Sad.
I'd have never thought of writing about something like that, like the World War 1.
You've done a great job. Systematically put into a poem. Thumbs up for this one!

Haha, awww! It is creative, extremely creative. : )
I like this poem. The chronology of events leading to ww1 was brought across perfectly. I'm not sure how you managed to get so many rhymes and such a good rhythm out of a history book.
