The Story of Poor Topper

The Story of Poor Topper

A Poem by KedViper

Topper tried to be happy just like anyone else
But all he could do was cry to himself

Everywhere he went, there was a storm above
It made it hard to find his one, true love

People thought he was ugly because of his face
But, despite that fact, he still went on with grace

He had an eternal frown that was weathered with tears
He had always been sad for most of his years

No one cared about him or would do anything to assist
So he was alone, but would, yet, persist to exist

But once, Topper saw the most precious bird
But, to her, he could not utter a single word

He was astonished by her beauty and followed her around
He crept behind her without the slightest sound

She looked back, behind her, and saw him there
Topper smiled, for once, but to his despair

Down, she went, died from such a fright
He mourned her death far into the night

He went up, way up, to such a lonely hill
He couldn't believe what happened was truly real

He sat there, with sorrow, in the pouring rain
He realized all he'd ever felt was miserable pain

He looked down to the ground and again he cried
But for the last time, upon that hill, he died
