The HerdA Poem by Kevin DoranAn assignment from my first year, first semester. We had to describe something without revealing what it was
We enter their habitat,
Gravel crunches angrily,
These mountains, now rubble,
Grumble.
The metal hides groan,
And the sun beats down.
Slumbering beasts in all colours
Bask.
One growls to life,
Runs for cover,
With it’s parasitic rider.
The rest, a gentle herd,
Purr.
Next to the enclosure,
A thousand blades stand tall,
Beneath their predator.
Their bodies mown down,
Fragrant
The herd sleeping,
Dream of roads to roam,
Soft tarmac underfoot,
And the water holes
Taste.
