The Maze of Life

The Maze of Life

A Poem by Kay Salisu Titilola
"

.....

"

I opened my eyes and I found myself
on a twisted road, so dark and scary.
The sounds I heard from far and near
are screams of men in pain and fret.

Strong smell like tons of rotten flesh
I sensed like those from broken hell.
Their minds and soul cry out for help
but there they are groaning in distress.

Today is gone, tomorrow is to come,
day after day, the struggle never stop.
The fight continues until it's no more.
Until there is nothing to get us running.

We fall and rise through this storm and tides.
Got stuck in this path of an endless track.
Hoping on tomorrow for the rest we deserve
but certainly know we must fight to survive.

From time to time, we roam in circular paths
in a stuffy place, where no one sees the other
where we are all trapped in a maze,
where we are forever looking for a way out.

I agree my friend.
"We fall and rise through this storm and tides.
Got stuck in this path of an endless track.
Hoping on tomorrow for the rest we deserve
but certainly know we must fight to survive"
Life is easy for no-one. Thank you Kay for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Not sure if the poem is about mankind in general, or the poet's home country of Nigeria, which has seen much civil and sectarian strife. At some points the images seem like scenes from Dante's hell, with no signs of relief. Overall there is a sense of weariness with the ongoing struggle, a desire for it to end once and for all. On the positive side, neither is there a sense of despair, of giving up on the whole thing. This is a good sign, for no evil goes on forever.

Welcome back!

"Hoping on tomorrow for the rest we deserve
but certainly know we must fight to survive..."

It's like being in a dark tunnel where everybody tells you there's light at the end but you don't know how far you have to walk to reach it or how long you can keep simulating the strength or interest to walk ahead. Nice work buddy ;)

Nice to see you back Kay. So much of this rings with truth as well as the terror that comes in the darkness.
So much turbulence ... so much destruction ... so much uncertainty.
You have captured the seemingly endless parade of despair quite well with this piece.

Wee written ... disturbing ...

Take care ... be safe.

I felt suffocation and entrapment here. Getting lost in a metaphorical way. That is surely a place of fear Kay. Nicely conveted piece.

Hang in there my friend and keep writing your poetry.
It gets old doesn't it?

Like Algernon trying to find his way out of the maze....we just seem to keep starting over after we get halfway out.
the glass always half full, half empty.
nicely done, Kay.

And it's been long I heard from Margie (Barleygirl). Hope she's fine?
