Zeal

Zeal

A Poem by Kay Salisu Titilola
"

...

"
The ink was dry
but I had to write.
Even though it's empty
I emptied this down.

The book was blank,
but nothing to write.
Through its empty pages
I blanked this out.

Not sure why this one was called "Zeal," because that word, in its more positive aspects, suggests enthusiasm, whereas the poem seems to describe the frustrated feeling associated with writers block. Perhaps the poet's determination to keep on writing can be described as a sort of zeal, but above all, be patient. When the muse wants to say something, it will let you know.

sometimes the words we write feel like they say nothing....they feel like a blank page as if creativity
has just gone from plain sight.

I enjoyed reading your poem and spoke to me about my struggles at times to give voice to stories or poems. Just as, Chris mentioned, in her keen assessment storytellers often battle with writers block. It is a malady we all fight at some point. There are many time I have put aside unfinished works for days or even years to return later to them in order to recapture their voice. Thank you for sharing your poem.

I got the feeling here Kay, of someone desperate to put pen to paper, but the words weren't flowing. That:s how I feel when I have writer's block. The passion is there but the words aren't.
