Introversion

The siege of boredom lies around me
Spirit of solitude overwhelmed me.
In the quiet of the day I found my rest
Taking refuge in a perfect silence.

I'm never alone in my loneliness,
Enjoying the company of my own self.
Within my mind lies my happiness,
Limiting the effect of the odd men.

Everybody really thinks I am weird,
But weird are those that think that of me.
They are too dramatic to see themselves.
They're to confused to understand me.

I'm not a mute neither am I a deaf,
I speak a lot in the midst of my friends
Too few are they that makes me speak,
They that are never ready to judge me.

Across deep imaginations I fly around
My thoughts is my wings that makes me fly.
My mind wanders in quest for an answer
An answer that real life can never provide.

I'm a dreamer that dream with my eyes open,
I'm unique and different in my way of life.
People think I'm crazy but they don't understand
That I'm born an introvert and not just a man.

'I'm a dreamer' says it all Kay. This self confession and self analysis has flavours of apology, anger and defiance. Being a thinker, a dreamer, being at the introvert end of the continuum is often the home of the creative mind. Nicely writ in a flowing poem.

Sorry I haven't reviewed you in a while. I haven't seen you in my newsfeed & I'm forgetful, so I forget all the great writers I have as friends here, if I don't see them! Sooo . . . many times you've written as if speaking about things I experience, which most people do not. Being a loner is one of those things. You express perfectly how it feels for me to be an outgoing person, but also a loner. I love my solitude & I was already good at doing "solitude" (10 years living alone in the wilderness) so this pandemic had no effect on me at all. But I watched as others struggled with a mere 2 months of being on lockdown, so then I realized how different I am, loving solitude as I do. You seem to be one of those people who would understand that & I love how your poetry shows your confidence in being different than everyone else (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Wow. You conveyed this feeling very eloquently. I can relate with every sentence. Introverts in the right audience won't shut up actually...lol!
Weird is good though, it's interesting and uniqe. Nothing more boring than being ordinary.
Great job Kay.

I agree with the lines above. I don't like being surrounded by people and I prefer the quiet of the lake or the sea. Thank you Kay for sharing the amazing words and thoughts.

Hello my friend and you are welcome.
Some serious thoughts and more serious introspections are laid out here for the reader to wonder about there own isolations. "Within my mind lies my happiness, Limiting the effect of the odd men" This line had me pausing and rereading, wondering about certain questions about what exactly you meant but then again "mystery" can be very enticing to poetry. Sounds like you've come to some real conclusions with this one. Thanks for the read.

A fantastic poem on poets and their solitude. Poets are dreamers and dreams need silence and peace. It's also said that those who do not appreciate their own company cannot truly appreciate the world. Nowadays, introverts are understood and accepted everywhere and they need not explain themselves to anyone. I am one too and I love being myself.

I completely understand your sentiment here, Kay—as a life long introvert myself. Coming to terms with who I am was a hard struggle for me because I grew up surrounded by extroverts and feeling like something was wrong with me and I just needed to change to fit in.

But eventually I stopped worrying about it and just tried to develop the strengths that I had. In times like the ones we are living in where being isolated is necessary, I feel fortunate. Because I don’t feel a real strain from not being constantly busy or surrounded by people. I actually enjoy a slower pace, so while others are feeling lonely, I feel ok. As ok as is possible with all that is going on in the world around us.

Being an introvert has many wonderful benefits. We are the thinkers, quite often, and approach the world through a different lens. Not everyone will like it, but no matter what we are, we will always have critics. Thanks for sharing this and expressing something many of us introverts have likely felt. Hope you are faring well there.

Those who enjoy their own company are indeed fortunate people. Especially in today's quarantine climate.....very important to be able to entertain oneself. Those who laughed at you are not wishing they could be more like you! Excellent write. Lydi**

Thank you so much, Lydia.
I'm so glad you see the truth in this write up.
being an introvert is not crazy...and enjoying one's own company is not crazy either...i think in order to enjoy others' company, we must be able to enjoy our own first.
and it is really important during this time of isolation, that we can be comfortable with ourselves.
