Life

Our destiny
is what we seek.
Our fate
is what we live.
We hold on
to what we believe
but ends up
at where we befit.

Very interesting & thought-provoking! I love this & I could almost agree with your definition of "destiny" and "fate" (two words which are often horribly misused by writers, in my opinion!) ANYTHING could be our destiny & ANYTHING could be our fate, which can change from day to day, depending on how we're feeling about life. That's why I'm only partially convinced by the wisdom in your words. The ending is what really slams (excellent!), for me. The word "befit" is a very unusual word to use, but I like that it's an uncommon way to say that we end up conforming to life. We end up doing what we have to do to survive. Writers can get all philosophical & fancy in analyzing life, but in the end, we all just do the best we can do & it leads us into avenues we never imagined taking (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Kay, what I read here in the most poetic terms is, "we get what we deserve." Though I often write from dark places, I'm the eternal optimist. I believe goodness wins in the end, if we don't give up. If we want a specific destiny, we must pursue it relentlessly. That's what I read here in a fine poem.

You're welcome, Kay. My pleasure.
Very Shakespearean attitude in this charming brevity... our fate is not in our stars, but in ourselves.

I have to admit to believing faith without works is dead, but also keeping an eye on the heavens!!! 😇😇

Thank you very much, Verse
You really got it all well.
i think fate and purpose in life often meet somewhere in the end...and we become what we were supposed to be no matter how long it takes us to get there. It took me 44 years to find teaching...and i feel i was always meant to be in a classroom...but it took many years and many other professions first to get there.
I identify with this piece.

Exactly!
Fate and purposes come together to make a decision on our destination in life.

Powerful wisdom shared. I do agree. We dig our own hole, we decide our journey. In the end, we decided where we want to be. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

I enjoyed your words and you are welcome my friend.
Yes I agree. I’m a big believer in karma. We do end up where we befit. It works out that way ultimately. We get what we deserve. So you’re right.
