Eye or Mind?

Eye or Mind?

A Poem by Kay Salisu Titilola
"

Which sees best?

"
Eye in front
of the eye lid, sees
what lies within its reach.
Its vision comes from the light,
It receives its sight from the bright
beams. Light off,  sight ceased,
darkness is its worst enemy.
Beholding physical beauty,
Easily ensnared by
Comely things.

Mind behind eye lid,
seeing whatever it could feel.
Its vision lies on discernment,
it sees through the fleshy skin.
Light off and eyes is closed,
It even sees better without
them both. The Beholder
 of the inner beauty,
always seeing
Through a
million
mile
...

Just trying to do something new with this. Though this is my first picture poem, I hope it makes some sense. And what is your point of view about this matter? Eye or Mind, which one do you think sees the best?

Thanks for your review.

Well done Kay. This is very thought provoking. Our understanding of perception is a very complex issue. As you have explained eye and mind are both involved. Your picture method of showing this has worked really well along with your words.
Well done.

This poem reflects a venerable spiritual truth. The outer, or human eye sees only the changing physical world, while the inner, or spiritual eye beholds the great truths of life. Our challenge is to properly balance these two eyes.

You are right, John.
Thank you so much.
Your poem seems to explain why online friendships/romances flourish . . . we can often be disconnected from our human tendency to judge in terms of the physical manifestations of a situation/person. In my humble opinion, there is nothing like making a mind-connection with another person thru words. This can surpass any momentary physical thrill, any day. When you are old & disabled & in the wilderness like me, making mind connections feels more relaxed becuz people feel a pressure to "perform" in physical ways for each other, to attract each other & to be acceptable. I'm not just talking about sex, but the ways we fluff ourselves up with whatever beautifying things we feel we need to do. That superficial crap goes by the wayside when dealing in a mind connection with another person that's on one's wavelength. Sorry for rambling. Maybe I shouldn't be having my third cup of coffee! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Thank you, Margie.
I'm always impressed by your review.
I think it's a rather fine work. The open eye sees the material and what is. The closed eye or the eye of the mind can see what can be. It can be inspirational depending on what kind of person you are.

We see constant antler, whether eyes open or not, dreaming and thinking, the unseen is seen and we can be anywhere.
Like the visual style too. 😀

Thank you so much, Lorry.
You made a point.
I really like that point of view.
Beautiful form and deeply meaningful title and poem Kay. Graceful words in a graceful format that pose a very wise and meaningful question. For me, neither type of vision can stand alone to give a true picture of the world. Thank you for this thought-provoking poem and lesson. Your last 6 lines speak the heart’s truth.
