My keeping quiet doesn't
mean I can't speak.
My gentleness doesn't
point out my weaknesses.
I may be calm and cool,
I may prentend I'm fool,
You may spit on my face,
and decry me with disgrace,
But try looking into my eyes,
there lies a devil bound in chains.
Not that I can't fight you back,
Not that I can't release the beast,
But here I stand in endurance,
All for the sake of peace.
To be able to stay calm on the outside when on the inside you want to rant and rave, well, that is something many people are unable to do. I think it is a smart way to act.....because attacking when you are enraged is often regretted later on. No, you can not judge a book by its cover. No one knows what is going on inside another. Don't change the image just the flow.
I really like what you've created here.

Thank you, Cherrie.
I really appreciate this wonderful review.
Strength in my mind never comes from allowing rage to enter the room strength come from being and doing even when they are not the popular things to be and do but to be who you are because of your choosing not whats popular or the unspoken rules:) so i would say its a fine anthem indeed

You are right!
Thank you so much for this, Robert.
It's hard keeping a cool head in the face of adversity. I'm known as the mediator of my family - I find ways to keep the peace and keep communications flowing. But there's so much rage in our country today. People killing each other over complicated lives or disgruntled employees taking the life of the innocent. For the welfare of man - can't we just learn to keep the peace?

I just wish people would understand how much peace can make the world a better place to live in.
Though some are always burning within and could destroy anything.
But with calmness, we can subdue their anger and give tranquility a chance to take over.
At this point in my life (63) I was thinking I just don't like confrontation. But in many ways, your poem expresses my journey getting to a place where I will not engage in a confrontation anymore. In the meantime, I had to bite back my venomous words, since I'd seen too many times how fighting fire with fire just burns everything to the ground. I love how you convey the intensity of holding back a firestorm, but not making it sound like a big sacrifice . . . just something you decided to do . . . and I LOVE the last line. My painful old body just cannot take strife anymore. Staying relaxed & peaceful is better than medicating with pain pills that break down your liver over time. After ten years of learning to do constant pain without pain pills, I'm a warrior now, when it comes to protecting my peaceful mindset (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

It's been of help and encouragement.
As an Introvert, I found it easy keeping calm at opprobrious words hurled at me. Though my spirit would feel like retaliating but the calmness in the other side of me would keep telling the mad me never to try adding fuel to the fire.
A tightly done, well written piece of work detailing out the bounds of inner-self...
Hardships are evident, but a tougher shell is more evident...
*misspelled pretend*
"I may prentend I'm fool, "
If you do not care, do not worry, cause i do not either...
Hella raw, mate...
I felt this one, tasted it in my teeth...
Found some bloody trails...
but a fighting spirit

Like the sentiment and the verse as you set the bar for a sage and sensible way to deal with such provocation. Wish I were so calm lol!
